Letters from a teacher

The first 13 letters were written during a period of work with Guatemalan refugees in Mexico and Guatemala between early 1993 and early 1995.

They describe life in the refugee camps in Mexico and the hard, frustrating work the Guatemalan people had to do before they were able to return to their country.

The last two (Nos 14 and 15) were written in 2005. Guatemala has now lived and struggled through nearly ten years of peace-time, a period during which many refugees have returned and some of the problems of the post-conflict period have been resolved, though poverty and social dysfunction have continued unchecked.
